Florida Governor Bans Use of Vaccine Passport

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) – Florida Governor Ron de Santis has signed legislation to prevent the “vaccine passport” from being implemented in the state, and is trying to make it a law that will be enforced for the long term.
  • Santis said he hopes to fast-track the legislation into law, hopes to provide the vaccine to all Floridians and thus not have the need for a possible “vaccine passport” who has pointed to it as discriminatory.
  • “Requiring so-called COVID-19 vaccine passports to participate in everyday life, such as attending a sporting event, patronizing a restaurant, or going to a movie theater, would create two cases of vaccination-based citizenship,” the order states.
  • Santis affirmed that these passports may reveal the health status of individuals, but nothing guarantees that the information can be used for other purposes, which is why he is against them, unlike Governor Cuomo, who took the initiative to apply them.
  • The order forces governmental institutions not to issue any type of vaccination passport or any other document that certifies the vaccination status of individuals.
  • Different surveys conducted in other states have shown that a large part of the U.S. population disagrees about documentation being required to access different social areas.
  • According to media reports, White House Secretary Jen Psaki is working with private software companies to provide vaccination passports with an identification system other than the QR code provided through mobile devices.
