Wuhan Tourism Increases Despite Being the Epicenter of Covid 19

• (General Dispatch) – Chinese media outlet Global Times reported that the city of Wuhan has increased the flow of tourists after removing restrictions that had been imposed due to the covid-19 outbreak.

• “The Qingming Festival vacations, which have just passed, saw the city rank among the top 10 domestic tourist destinations, a scene few would have imagined a year ago” reported the media outlet.

• According to one of the city’s main attractions has been its exotic food, as the city was approached by a huge number of visitors, hotel reservations reached their limit.

• The Qingming Festival is an event held every year in China that involves a small practice of “cannibalism” as a way to show some respect to the dead.

• The Chinese government has reported that the country has managed to defeat the virus, for this reason it is gradually eliminating the blockades in different cities, Wuhan being one of them, despite the fact that its vaccination campaign has not achieved the immunization goals.

• According to another report revealed by the Global Times, it is expected that by May the tourism sector will fully recover through domestic travel, however the consumption income of tourists has fallen by about 40% as a result of inflation.

• Experts in the tourism sector stated that one of the possible causes that encouraged the Chinese community to visit the Qingming festival as other destinations, has been the government’s restriction on international travel.
