Protesters Vandalize Police Station in Minnesota Following Racial Killing

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) –    Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, had to increase security by mobilizing the National Guard after a group of protesters vandalized the Brooklyn Center police station.
  • The protests began after police officers killed a black man, who allegedly had a warrant. The officers asked him to get out of a vehicle, but he did not comply and subsequently opened fire.
  • Despite Governor Walz’s assertions that the attack had nothing to do with racism, several protesters complained about the treatment of people of color by police officers.
  • Mike Elliott, the mayor of Brooklyn Center, issued his condolences through a message and said “Our entire community is filled with grief after the officer-involved shooting of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old. Our hearts go out to his family and to all those in our community affected by this tragedy”
  • Elliott asked the community to await the findings of the investigation into the death of Daunte Wright, and to avoid any acts of violence, assuring that the truth will be known and justice will be served.
  • It is presumed that 500 people were involved in the attack on the police station, causing damage to police vehicles, both inside and outside the facility.
  • The police forces tried to disperse the protesters with tear gas and other anti-riot measures and in the end had to resort to the National Guard due to the uncontrollable situation.
