Users Decry Amazon’s “Them” Series Content for Inciting Racial Discrimination, Pornographic Torture and Hate Crimes

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) –   Amazon Prime’s recent horror series “Them” has received a barrage of criticism and accusations for projecting and inciting racial violence, child homicides of Afro-descendant children, and torture pornography.
  • Under the direction of producers Little Marvin and Lena Waithe, Them tells the story of a black family that must live together in an all-white neighborhood and face the lowest extremes of racial discrimination.
  • Meanwhile, one of the facts of violence that the series contains is located in the episode in which a black baby is murdered by a white woman, and she mocks after committing the crime.
  • Likewise, the sexual assault by an Afro-descendant woman and mother of the murdered baby who is raped by a white man, while her other son watches the event.
  • The audience did not take long to react and express their opposition to a really crude content, which despite showing a reality incites the public to commit acts of such nature.
  • Although the series tries to tell the story of how in the 1950s the Afro-descendant population was subjugated and outraged by white Americans, the images upset anyone.
  • Notably, it is evident that black-skinned people paid a much higher tribute than whites and how they were displaced for the simple reason of not having white skin color.
  • Everything seems to indicate that the production seeks to generate an awakening in the conscience of the American people, because history seeks to repeat itself again, in view of the notable growth of social discrimination that the nation is experiencing.
