Vladimir Putin Declines Biden’s Invitation for Meeting

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – Russian media outlet RT reported that President Vladimir Putin has no interest in establishing some kind of personal conversation with President Biden.
  • Government representative Dmitry Peskov said that there are other priorities for now for the Kremlin, apart from the fact that it is complicated to try to hold a personal meeting in the short term in another country.
  • In March, tensions between the two countries escalated when President Biden called the Russian president a “murderer” and said that Russia must pay for all crimes committed before the international court.
  • For now President Putin said “I want to propose to President Biden to continue our discussion, but on the condition that we do it basically live, as it is called.”
  • Putin wants an open discussion where all Russian citizens could watch and listen to the debate he wanted with President Biden, but President Biden declined the Russian president’s proposal.
  • According to media reports, Biden spoke with Peskov about the actions being taken by the Kremlin with the mobilization of large numbers of Russian military troops and weapons to the Crimean peninsula.
  • But he stopped short of touching on opposition figure Alexei Navalny, who has been on a hunger strike over mistreatment by the authorities where he is being held in detention.
  • Peskov did not want to give many details about the actions Putin is taking, yet a meeting may be planned, after Biden expelled 10 Russian diplomats and will implement more sanctions for the Kremlin.
