Antony Blinken Associates Climate Change with Racism

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) – Blinken affirmed his position in ensuring the nation’s security, focusing on different issues, among them climate change and making known how it can affect society.
  • Blinken delivered a message from the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, where he detailed the efforts he has made against aggressions from China and Russia, including the coronavirus.
  • However, he expressed concern about climate change, giving as an example the Bay, an area where natural disasters have been more aggressive for some time now.
  • The consequences of climate change can affect disadvantaged communities, creating inequality and systemic discrimination, Blinken said in the interview.
  • For this reason, he advises to increase efforts and apply all the necessary tools to prevent this from happening, because if pollution is not taken into account now, the outlook for the future will not be positive.
  • “More frequent and intense storms; longer dry periods; larger floods; more extreme heat and more extreme cold; faster sea level rise; more displaced people; more pollution; more asthma. Higher health costs; less predictable seasons for farmers. And all of that will affect low-income, black and brown communities the most,” Blinken said.
  • The secretary admitted that the U.S. is not leading the way on renewable energy issues, compared to China who is leading the way, yet the Asian nation remains one of the biggest polluters on the planet.
  • On the other hand, Biden’s administration informed that it will do everything possible to help the community to recover its quality of life and to generate again the large number of jobs that are affected by this type of disasters.
