BLM to Stand up for its Ideal after George Floyd Trial

  • By Ely Márquez
  • (General Dispatch) – The official organization Black Lives Matter UK issued a message and said that it will maintain its ideal and protection of its community, against “white supremacy” and police institutions.
  • This message was generated after the court sentenced Derek Chauvin who was found guilty of the murder of African-American George Floyd, the conviction will be announced 8 weeks after the trial.
  • The activist group has felt that Black Lives Matter has become more active in Britain since the expected trial of ex-cop Derek Chauvin was achieved.
  • Activists in Britain are thinking of Black people around the world who live with the knowledge that this verdict will not prevent future abuses of police violence and police killings.
  • The organization said Floyd’s case is just one step of many that will be required now and in the future to continue its activities to dismantle white supremacist and police funding groups.
  • Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was shocked by Floyd’s case, and after learning of Chauvin’s conviction, he viewed the verdict positively and sent his condolences to his family and friends.
  • London mayoral candidate Laurence Fox issued a critique of the activist group and said “Black Lives Matter wants to see the removal of police funding, the end of the nuclear family and everything that the vast majority of British people of all backgrounds wish to defend.”
  • After Floyd’s death was announced some extremists from the BLM group staged various violent protests, including the defacing of some symbolic statues, so the white community in Britain may be concerned that such an ideal may turn into extremism.
