France First Country in the European Bloc to Implement the Vaccine Passport

  • By Ely Márquez
  • (General Dispatch) – The French government in conjunction with the Ministry of Health has approved the implementation of a digital passport, which identifies the vaccination status of individuals.
  • It is presumed that in the short term, the certificate will not only show whether the person is vaccinated or not, but will also be able to provide other information about vaccination data, the pass was created through an APP called “TousAntiCovid”.
  • The French government found it necessary to implement the digital pass after an accelerated increase in coronavirus cases, due to the lax measures implemented by President Emmanuel Macron.
  • However, they see positively the implementation of the APP to be able to track contacts and thus facilitate the study of those areas where the virus can affect or spread faster.
  • Although the acceptance of the digital pass is low, the government said that such a measure will come into effect from April 29, it will be a necessary requirement for those people who decide to move to other sites in France.
  • French digital secretary of state Cédric O. said that those who are reluctant to make use of the app can easily opt to print the certificate via a scannable QR code.
  • According to the media outlet The Guardian he said that there will be exceptions for the entry of French people to different places such as restaurants, for such reason the pass will be intended for both travel and large events.
  • Although it was approved at the national level in France, the European Commission led by Ursula Von Der Leyen has not yet approved a vaccination pass in general, allowing people to travel through the 27-country bloc.
