Biden Administration to Invest $300 Million in Afghanistan

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) – White House Secretary Antony Blinken told the media that about $300 million will be invested as a way to further strengthen ties with the country.
  • Blinken said that although the Biden administration opted to extend the troop presence in Afghan territory by 4 months, the commitment to maintain security will remain in place.
  • Although the occupation of US troops has been going on for two decades now, it is one of the longest wars the US has maintained, generating a high cost for the nation; however a millionaire aid is intended for now.
  • “As part of our commitment to invest in and support the Afghan people, we are working with Congress to provide nearly $300 million in additional civilian assistance for Afghanistan in 2021 from both the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development,” Secretary Blinken said.
  • Former President Trump’s intention was to withdraw troops by May 1, but Biden preferred not to comply, according to a planning that had been presented by the Pentagon still warning of certain dangers that could manifest themselves.
  • However, Biden, in changing the departure date, said “It is time for the U.S. troops to come home”, which has generated some debate since General Kenneth F. McKenzie, Jr. suggested moving the troops to other types of missions in other countries.
  • Khaama Press News Agency reported that the money will be used to improve health services, education, housing, security and begin to provide a better quality of life for Afghans as well as promote productive growth in the nation.
  • However, McKenzie predicts that by the time the troops withdraw, the Afghan army will collapse, so he advises to continue giving different types of aid, both economic and security advice.
