  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – With no hospital beds and oxygen in a deplorable healthcare system and 314,835 new cases, India has had a record number of Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours.
  • The second most overpopulated country in the world, with 1.4 billion inhabitants, estimates a total of 15.9 million cases since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • The Ministry of Health reported that in 24 hours the number of deaths due to contagion rose to 2,014, resulting in a total of 184,657 deaths, while hospitals are unable to provide the necessary services due to the lack of medical supplies and equipment.
  • However, the High Court of New Delhi, faced with the current complex situation, decided to use industrial oxygen in hospitals in order to stop the appalling and increasing death toll from Covid-19.
  • Dr. Sanjay Gururaj, a physician at Shanti Hospital and Research Center, Bulgaluru, receives calls every day from sick people who are in a desperate search for an empty bed.
  • “I try to find beds for patients every day and it has been incredibly frustrating not being able to help them. In the last week, three patients of mine died at home because I couldn’t get beds,” Gururaj reported.
  • On Sunday, more than 200 corpses were taken in for cremation in Lucknow. And around 35 platforms were temporarily set up in Kanpur for cremation of bodies.
  • Daily procurement of 7,500 metric tons of oxygen (8,300 U.S. tons) for medical use is in the process of being allocated to hospitals, according to the Ministry of Health.
