Biden Administration Deteriorated Turkey’s Diplomatic Relationship with the U.S.

  • By Anton Grillo
  • (General Dispatch) –  Turkish state media have reported that the Biden administration has deteriorated relations with Ankara with no possible solution in the short term.
  • Recently, President Biden, in a statement, called Turkey’s actions against the Armenian people in 1915 a genocide, but the Turkish government denied such claims, saying it was a war between the two sides.
  • Some antecedents have corroborated the participation of the Ottoman Empire where it had murdered around 1.5 million Armenians, being this a population of 2 million people.
  • Such actions made that nowadays the Turkish country has mostly inhabitants of the Muslim religion, after committing a great genocide with those people who professed Christianity.
  • Ankara University professor Yildiz Deveci Bozkuş said that the Turkish country had been trying to resume relations with the U.S. since Biden took office until the moment he named the word “genocide”.
  • The professor issued an analysis article, saying that “it was not expected until the last moment that Biden would add a new issue to those already at hand and bring relations to an irreparable point. On April 24, Biden used the expression ‘genocide’ in a message he published to commemorate the events of 1915.”
  • The Turkish government was surprised that a President would refer to the issue using the word “genocide”, to the massacre that took place in the years 1915 and 1923. The Turkish government denied that the conflict had reached the level Biden said.
  • Turkish President Erdogan said “The investigation of historical events and the revelation of the truth should be left to experts and historians, not politicians”.
