South Asia Among the Most Polluted Cities in The World

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) – A Swiss group conducted an investigation into air quality and issued a statement saying that New Delhi, India, has been one of the most polluted countries in the world, and South Asia has the worst air quality.
  • Reuter’s news media said that air particulates in New Delhi were dense, more than twice as dense as in Beijing, which is another of the most polluted cities in the world.
  • Although the pandemic reduced pollution levels in different countries through blockades and inactivity of productive sectors, India remained in third place for its high pollution levels.
  • “Air pollution caused an estimated 54,000 premature deaths in New Delhi in 2020, according to a recent study by Greenpeace Southeast Asia Analysis and IQAir,” Reuters said.
  • Air pollution in New Delhi does not come directly from industries, indiscriminate and large-scale burning in the agricultural sector has contributed to high air pollution.
  • On the other hand China has witnessed how sandstorms have severely affected part of the capital, it has been concluded that the phenomenon is getting stronger every year because of the pollution in the city of Jotan.
  • The Chinese government has blamed other nations for climate change, trying to evade or ignore their actions.
  • According to the IQAir report, there was a slowdown in pollution due to inactivity and controls in production sectors worldwide in 2020, but only 24 nations managed to comply with the measures imposed by the WHO. But it is predicted that levels may rise again once the pandemic is over.
