Blinken Fails in Diplomatic Talks with China

  • By Steph. G. Halston
  • (General Dispatch) – Secretary Of State Antony Blinken returned from his meeting with several high-level Chinese diplomats in Alaska to discuss human rights issues.
  • But he did not come back with great results, as he gave the reason for China’s criticism of the US for the racial problems it has had throughout history, being an internal human rights problem.
  • Yang Jiechi, a leading member of the Communist Party of China said that in order to accuse China they should do better in the U.S., and thus publicize the number of human rights violations.
  • Blinken responded “Well, we know we have work to do at home that includes addressing deep inequalities, including systemic racism. We don’t pretend these problems don’t exist or try to sweep them under the rug. We do not ignore them. We deal with them in the light of day with full transparency.”
  • On the other hand, Blinken said that the difference that exists between the US and China is the transparency that is made known through the media without any kind of strategy to hide the information.
  • An important topic for Blinken was to discuss with his counterparts the genocide being committed by the CCP in the Xinjiang region, after the creation of 1000 concentration camps where crimes against humanity have been committed.
  • The CCP has tried to deny the acts that have been committed in Xinjiang claiming that there is no indoctrination, but rather apparent Chinese culture classes for the neediest groups of the Uyghur ethnic group.
  • The Alaska meeting did not work to reach any agreement, the secretary only accepted that in the world there are human rights violations, despite the fact that there is evidence of the crimes, no measures are applied against the nations that carry them out.
