- (General Dispatch) – A campaign is underway by national and state senators who disagree with the choice of current U.S. President Joe Biden who nominated Xavier Becerra for the position of Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
- The group of senators sent a document requesting that the Senate Health and Finance Committee reconsider this nomination and that it be denied because the current California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is against pro-life policies and laws.
- The senators as a whole have implied that prosecutor Becerra has shown a despicable attitude to those who oppose abortion, regardless of religious and moral beliefs, being in favor of it.
- The leaders listed some of the actions where attorney general Becerra is attacking Americans:
- Aggression with people’s morality.
- Leading the fight to defund Planned Parenthood.
- Taking groups to court to violate their religious freedom protections.
- Forcing health care entities to provide and pay for abortions.
- Attacking pro-life pregnancy centers and journalists.
- The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.
- Former Director Roger Severino who was previously in charge of HHS, chaired by the Trump administration said the policies and nominations being made by Biden are moving away from the rule of law, aggravating the situation to divide the cabinet.
- “I cannot imagine a more divisive choice for such an important agency during a pandemic, the least that is needed is to nominate this type of person who has no knowledge of health care or epidemiology, with this type of action Biden’s intention to foster unity is way off the mark” Severino said.
- The national director of Priests for Life Frank Pavone said through a statement that he disagrees with this choice because Mr. Becerra has proven to be an enemy of health, women and the unborn.
- This document follows another in December in which 40 senators asked the Senate to vote “no” to the nomination, even though the Senate’s decision on who will be the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is still pending.
