New Law Will Promote Immigrant Deportations in Great Britain

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – Minister Boris spoke about the legislative project he has for Great Britain, which will reform the way lawyers handle the immigration situation.
  • Currently this type of legislative procedure makes deportations a more complex and delayed process, as lawyers have the authority to conduct judicial reviews of detainees, while awaiting the verdict of the immigration courts.
  • A government representative said that deportations since 2020 have fallen by an exorbitant 79%, where detainees have criminal records, most of them immigrants.
  • The new law “will put an end to the industrial use of judicial review in the High Court with desperate claims already adjudicated by court judges frustrating last-minute dismissals.
  • According to The Telegraph newspaper through a news item revealed that out of more than 5500 judicial opinions since 2012 only 0.2% becomes successful being mostly immigration and asylum cases.
  • A government representative said that the current legislation has been a complete failure on immigration matters, coming since 2012 when Tony Blair let cases go to judges with greater authority.
  • “The judicial review process is vital to protect people’s rights, but it is equally important that it is not open to abuse, used to play politics by other means or create unnecessary delays” said the government representative.
  • The representative issued some criticism, because ministers have tried to change the laws to improve the immigration situation, yet it has been a process that has failed over the years, currently Britain is no longer a member of the EU, and it is expected that the picture will change.
  • For example, in the statements of Minister Priti Patel, she said that she would change the landscape over the English Channel, ending the migration crisis; however such solutions have not been forthcoming at all.
