  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) –  According to media reports, the Chicago Police Department has conducted a statistical study, revealing that violence has increased.
  • The numbers of criminal acts have been increasing around 4 years, currently it was reported that 4 police officers were shot in just the month of March, crimes continue despite the coronavirus restrictions.
  • The number of violent acts involving firearms for 2021 was 233 cases, where 298 were victims who received at least one bullet hit, comparing it to previous years it has been a 40% increase.
  • According to ABC Chicago media reported that crimes involving vehicle theft had some increase, although the homicide rate had a 33% change.
  • The south and west side of Chicago have been the areas most affected by the wave of violence, in the Easter week 7 people were killed, in the month of March 34 people were shot.
  • The forecast for the wave of violence to diminish has been little hopeful, different groups have held protests against the police force, involving racial issues.
  • One of the possible reasons for this accelerated increase in crime has been the collapse of the economy following the announcement of measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
  • “Sixty-three of the 66 largest police jurisdictions experienced increases in at least one category of violent crime in 2020, including homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, according to a report produced by the Major Cities Chiefs Association,” according to a report filed by CNN.
