France: Deportations of Illegal Immigrants Stopped by Covid-19

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – Different state media in Paris reported that police authorities in Yvelines have been astonished by the number of illegal immigrants who will have to remain in the nation.
  • The deportation process has been affected firstly by the restrictions and the increase of Covid-19 cases, secondly because most of the immigrants have apparently reported to be minors.
  • One of the points that have concerned the authorities is the number of migrants apart from the facilities not having the capacity to hold too many, and at the same time being able to enforce social distancing.
  • The police have received constant calls for the eviction of groups of migrants in the Mantes-la-Jolie sector, although they do their job, hours later the facilities are reoccupied.
  • Although the procedure for minors is different from that for adults, many immigrants lie to the authorities in order to avoid criminal proceedings and try to evade deportation.
  • One example that demonstrates the bad immigration policies has been the detention of a young man more than 9 times in a few months, being released each time he was arrested.
  • An activist who helps homeless migrants stated that the numbers have increased considerably as they try to enter the nation in search of work even if they earn 20 euros a day.
  • Some criminals have offered easy money to migrants through the sale of psychotropic substances, and recommend that they say they are minors, in order to outwit the authorities.
