Massachusetts Police Department Offers Public Apology for Chauvin and Floyd Case

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – One of the Massachusetts Police Departments offered a public apology for a post made on the social networking site Facebook that offensively compared George Floyd to Derek Chauvin.
  • Initially, the post stated, “Chauvin immediately stood up and calmly put his hands behind his back. Imagine where we would be if George had done the same.”
  • The Department expressed through a statement its apologies, after an officer accessed the police account and issued an erroneous personal comment.
  • The publication was characterized by users of the network as offensive, as it is a way to mock a discriminatory act that cried out for justice.
  • In this sense, the Department sought a way to get rid of new accusations of systemic racism, justifying itself in the official’s mistake.
  • It is evident that racist statements continue to be made by police officers, as well as by many U.S. citizens.
  • For their part, many citizens have called the department’s action unacceptable in the face of an intense week that could unleash further violence in the country.
  • Department Chief Jeff Cardoza said he is working hard to transform the culture of the police department to mitigate systemic racism in the United States.
