UK Aircraft Carrier to Deploy to Asia in May

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) – The London media AP has reported that the UK naval and air force will deploy to India, Japan, Singapore and South Korea in order to make its presence felt in the Asian continent.
  • The aircraft carrier HMS “Queen Elizabeth”, a large ship serving the Royal Navy, will leave port in May, accompanied by other types of war vehicles.
  • It will be escorted by six small vessels serving the Royal Navy, an armed submarine, and 14 helicopters in addition to the highly trained and skilled crew.
  • Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that the objective of this mission is to let the Asian continent as well as the international community know that the country is not lagging behind in military matters compared to other countries.
  • “When our Carrier Strike Group sets sail next month, it will fly the flag for the global United Kingdom, projecting our influence, signaling our power, interacting with our friends and reaffirming our commitment to addressing the security challenges of today and tomorrow,” the defense secretary said.
  • Defense Secretary Wallace is expected to provide more details about the mission next week; the ship is expected to be out of the country for about 6 months.
  • Minister Boris Johnson said that he thought the idea of this mission was excellent, showing the position that the United Kingdom will have from now on after having separated from the European bloc, and trying to strengthen ties with the countries of the Pacific.
  • Although a visit was planned for negotiations with India, the trip had to be cancelled after New Delhi announced an increase in the number of infectious cases of coronavirus.
