- (General Dispatch) – A survey conducted by the Ifop institute revealed that 86% of French citizens have shown concern that the issue of “security and terrorism” is important for the outcome of the 2022 elections.
- The media outlet Le Journal du Dimanche reported that members of the National Rally and the center-right Les Republicains said that security is a very important issue, reflecting in the survey between 98-99%.
- Even parties supporting President Emmanuel Macron have approved of the security issue in large percentage, members of La République en Marche 86%, Socialist party 80% and far-left La France Insoumise at 70%.
- The percentage of security concerns increased considerably by 26% from May 2020 when different religious groups started to make attacks and threats against the French.
- The key event was the beheading of Professor Sammuel Paty, who in his lectures referred to the Prophet Mohammed as an insult to Muslims, and his subsequent murder by a radical.
- Indeed, these results put Le Pen’s presidential candidacy at the forefront, who has made known her security project supported by the military and the police.
- A study conducted by the Jean-Jaurès Foundation revealed a possible victory of Le Pen, depending on the decisions made by Macron, as a large part of the population may desist from supporting the current president.
