Eurocrats Point to Brexit as a “Historic Mistake” Before Approving Trade Deal

  • By James Kravitz
  • (General Dispatch) – Britain has come under heavy fire for the democratic vote by members of the European Parliament, calling leaving the European Union “a historic mistake” in the run-up to the vote to approve the trade deal.
  • In the first instance, the European Parliament published a motion for a resolution ahead of Tuesday’s vote, claiming that the UK’s decision to leave the European Union is wrong and will have negative consequences.
  • In this order of ideas, the resolution also makes a special emphasis on the “limited scope” of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, because it excludes defense and foreign policy agreements.
  • In contrast, Brexit leader Nigel Farage calls the UK’s exit an epic triumph, while former European Council President Donald Tusk assures that Britain regrets the event in the future.
  • In this sense, what the European Union will miss is Britain’s economic strength, which is why the European Parliament may be weakened.
  • Evidently, the provisional agreement was signed on December 28, with the participation of the European Union and other members involved in the act, which was finally signed on December 30.
  • After the agreement was prolonged by the MEPs to deepen the underlying consequences, it is expected to be finally deliberated this Tuesday night.
  • Of course, the Brexit process has been long in itself, as the members involved have studied the decision from all sides and it will be on Wednesday when the course of the case will be finally known.
